Things To Do In March

things to do in march

embracing the seasons | things to do in march

Start practicing your hot cross bun eating skills. You mean you haven’t already??

Get a new haircut – I just did. After fresh colour and a considerable chop, I was Meg Ryan. Well for as long as the bouncy blow dry lasted anyway.

Sit down with a Nancy Meyers movie. My favourites? It’s Complicated, Somethings Gotta Give and The intern. Next on my list is Home Again.

Figure out what your Happiness Boosts are and implement them often. I’m with Monica re the manicure!

Pop into your local florist, buy a bunch of different stems and flowers and bring them home to scatter around the house in small pots. Spring in every room!

Wrap up warm and have a late winter/early spring BBQ in the garden. We’ll be doing this on 25 March… Mr OS likes to celebrate the start of the Grand Prix season with a little Surf ‘n Turf.

Smile at people who make eye contact with you, pay someone a genuine compliment and practice random acts of kindness. You have no idea what a difference you could be making to someone’s day.

Online Stylist balloons at the beach

For no reason whatsoever, stage your own family photo shoot outside. Grab some props, the kids (the dog if you’re brave enough to work with children and animals!) and go out and have fun, taking turns behind the camera. We’ve ended up with some of the best family shots whilst taking photos for the blog. But there’s no excuse needed.
And in the spirit of the point above, whilst we were shooting this post, I handed our balloons to a lady who was taking selfies with her daughter on the beach and offered to take their photo for them.

Make a spring shopping list of what you’d like to see in your wardrobe over the next couple of months. Because you already cleared out your closet right??

Compile a spring inspired Spotify playlist. Mine would be full of tracks that just make me want to get in the car and drive to the beach with the window down.

Spend an evening with no TV. None whatsoever. Put on your PJs, pull on some cashmere bed socks, build a blanket nest on the sofa and invite the whole family (including the dog) to settle in with a book. If Biscuit had opposable thumbs and could read, her book would be titled “A Complete History Of Tennis Balls”.

Go to your favourite coffee shop or cafe, sit in a window seat with your hot beverage of choice and a piece of cake. Then watch the world go by. Observe the people you see and ponder their lives. Don’t pick up your phone and don’t Instagram it. Keep it between you and the passers by.

Take ten minutes on a sunny day to sit outside. Close your eyes and do nothing except soak up the rays. Don’t Instagram Story it, don’t Tweet it. Just live it.

What would you add to your Things To Do In March list?

  1. This is practically the perfect list of to dos for March! I especially love this one “Smile at people who make eye contact with you, pay someone a genuine compliment and practice random acts of kindness. You have no idea what a difference you could be making to someone’s day.” That is so true and if everyone practiced this the world would be a completely different – and better – place.

I adore the pictures of you and your daughter. It’s amazing how much she’s grown, such a beautiful young lady.

    1. Aw thanks so much Gigi! And you’re right – if we gave more thought to what might be going on behind the scenes for other people rather than just assuming, I’m pretty certain the world would be kinder for sure.
H will be 13 next month – I can’t get my head around that really!
Love to you and your family!

  2. I agree with you and Lazy Daisy Jones, some events, even if it’s walking to the shop, are for ourselves and not for Instagram (FB, Twitter and so on and so on). Others I like…Manicure! May have to do some arm twisting and bribery on the photo shoot though. Lovely list, got me thinking x

    1. Hey Helen,
It’s a funny thing when you actually have to stop yourself from Instagramming stuff – sign of the times I guess. I just find I do need to switch off and draw a line sometimes!
      Have a great week!
