Say Hello To The New Look Online Stylist!

Well Hello! Notice anything new?

I am SO excited to finally reveal the new look Online Stylist blog to you!

Racing pulse, clammy hands and nervous excitement don’t even begin to cover how I feel right now!

It’s taken just over a year for this new incarnation to come to fruition. A year that involved extracting detail from an overflowing mind and evolving it into what you see on the screen in front of you now.

Since I began sharing my thoughts and inspirations here in 2009, this blog has been through a few design changes. And I look back on each of them with love as they form part of the growing process that comes with evolving it from a hobby blog into something resembling a business.

Crossroads

Towards the end of summer 2016, I found myself at a bit of a life crossroads for all sorts of reasons.

With the blog playing a huge role in my life and the content pretty much populated by the life I choose to live, I started thinking about what lies at the very heart of the Online Stylist blog and its core values.

It’s about living a stylish, inspired & positive life…

In short, those values will always be the same. They’re about living a stylish, inspired & positive life and finding ways to celebrate the joy to be found in the small things.

But as time drew on, I felt that how I was attempting to get the narrative across could be improved and refined.

Moreover, I wanted it to properly reflect the kind of life I lead now. I’ve always been a firm believer that a lifestyle blog should evolve as life does.

Refresh & Rebrand

Showcasing my own style doesn’t have to take the form of me traveling to London with a suitcase full of outfits.

Sharing what I’ve learned about building a blog from the ground up could be improved upon and broken down into lots more specifics.

There should be more airtime dedicated to amazing women with entrepreneurial spirit and definitely more sharing of the brilliant resources and communities I’ve been discovering of late.

A life lived near the coast and in the countryside should be celebrated.

Wardrobe staples, shopping edits and style inspiration should be plentiful.

The lifestyle elements of food and interiors need lots more exploration… especially as both seem to occupy increasingly larger parts of my brain these days.

Opportunities for coffee and cashmere cravings should be indulged in frequently and mostly monochrome living must be encouraged!

And more importantly, if these are the things that float your boat too, then you need to be able to access them with ease.

A new blogging chapter

This new blogging chapter sets out my inspirations for stylish living in a way that I hope you’ll find easier to navigate.

The decision to refresh the blog layout, categories and subject matter was two fold.

I want to improve upon and expand the spread of future content. And also enable you to navigate the site more easily, finding what you’re after a lot quicker.

The rebranding part comes from that innate need that simmers under the surface for most of us at one time or another.

Nothing feels more invigorating than an image overhaul, a huge tidy up, a seasonal wardrobe edit or a fresh start.

This new look blog feels like a combination of all the above in one hit. That’s one powerful revamp vibe!

Layout & Navigation

Take a scroll though the menu bar and it will take you to some new content category pages.

From there you can choose from further categories in another menu bar… et Voila! You can browse through a huge archive of posts in easy snippet formats.

The latest new content can always be accessed from the rotating image banner at the top.

Underneath that you’ll find three quick links to the current Style Edit page, the Living Section and finally, a new Shop My Instagram page.

a celebration of life by the coast

For many of us, myself included, Instagram is becoming a huge influence when it comes to shopping habits.

If you follow me there, you’ll see I often utilise the Reward Style Like To Know It shoppable link function for some of my images. More here on how this works.

I know that giving over your email address to yet another organisation can be a little off-putting for some folk. As one who receives a gazillion emails a week, I totally get this!

Having a new Shop My Instagram page on the blog means that you can easily access the pieces or inspiration featured without having to sign up to receive the Like To Know.it emails if you don’t want to. You talked… I listened!

Of course you can still shop all the Like to Know it tagged images straight from Instagram on your mobile device in the normal way too. I personally love it… but my bank manager? Not so much!

I Couldn’t have done it without…

I have to say a huge thank you, firstly to Emily Wells Design who brought my ideas to life.

First came a mood board and then a logo, some beautiful clean fonts and a colour palette that didn’t veer to far from my mostly monochromatic path.

You can see more of Emily’s work here and her Instagram feed is as gorgeous to scroll through as her Alabama accent is to listen to on the phone!

And of course the amazing team at Chloé Digital who took me through a category clean up exercise (Boy were my categories in need of a clean!), the layout design, site build, test and finally implementation.

You guys absolutely rock and this blog wouldn’t be where it is now without you! Thank you!

There are also a few lovely supportive people have had to do lots of listening and soothing of concerns and self-induced stress – you know who you are.

You are my girl squad and I cherish our community that we’ve built. Thank you!

Thank you!

And lastly but never least, to you… you gorgeous, patient and supportive blog readers for putting up with me warbling on about #TOSrefresh2017 since I don’t know when. Which in the end turned out to be #OSrefresh2017!

Your thoughts and opinions mean everything so please feel free to drop me a line here via email or in the comments below to let me know what you think of the new look Online Stylist, the logo, layout and navigation.

And feel free to share the new update on social media using #TOSrefresh2017 (one last time for that The!).

Likewise if you come across any glitches, please do drop me a note as I’ll be in housekeeping mode for a few days.

YouTube here we come!

Finally, in the spirit of trying something new, I thought it would be fun to encapsulate the ethos of Online Stylist in something other than words and still images.

So with the help of the lovely Lauren from The Female Edit, I made a video…

And now that I have this new framework in place, it’s time to get on with the rest of the year… and some serious content creation.

But before that, I have a date with a bottle of the good stuff (Veuve Clicquot as if you needed to ask!) and the long suffering husband who’s been listening to my rebrand ramblings since February!

Cheers! xx

  1. Hi Amanda
Just wanted to say that I love the new look…..it’s so fresh and inviting! Well done, it sounds as though it’s been a labour of love.
I would also like to add a huge thank you…..I’ve been meaning to drop you a line for ages.
You write some amazingly helpful articles and I feel have really benefited from your experiences, especially the articles regarding working with brands and putting together a media kit yourself (I paid for one and wasn’t happy with it….I couldn’t believe how easy it was to do on Canva). I am totally indebted to you! I adore your style too…..I aim to elevate the everyday.
I hope you will be celebrating this evening with plenty of bubbles!
Have a super weekend and all the best with your new beginnings.

    1. Hi Michelle!
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback – I’m thrilled that you like it!
And I’m so happy that you find the working with brands articles helpful – this makes me grin from ear to ear! I think lots of people may have paid for media kits that they just weren’t happy with and I think Canva is brilliant. Its such a gem worth exploring and I still find things now that I didn’t know about it before!
I love that you’re adopting the Elevate The Everyday mantra – it just makes life feel better doesn’t it?
We did enjoy bubbles thank you – and it was great to have a quiet weekend just catching up on the domestic front!
      I hope you’re having a great week!
      Lots of love,
      Amanda xx

  2. Brilliant! Inspirational, both to look at and to read. Worth every ounce of mild hysteria, the fretful nights and occasional implosion. Crack open those bubbles!

  3. WOW! I’m not usually at a loss for words (as you know) but I’m yet to take it all in; I’m looking forward to getting to know the stunningly impressive new OS. It’s such a thing of beauty & I can only imagine the efforts & processes you’ve gone through – what an incredible achievement. Congratulations Amanda! SO x

  4. Love the new look for Online Stylist. Clear and easy to navigate. Love the hint of blush too. I’m looking forward to seeing you extend in to new areas. You’re an inspiration and it’s really pushing me to get my own blog up and running. Enjoy your weekend and hope you get time to celebrate a successful launch x

    1. Aw Fran – thanks so much!
The blush I felt was a bit of a change and one I’m growing to love more each day!
I still find it hard to imagine what I do is an inspiration to anyone – its so enjoyable that it feels like a dream. But am so thrilled that you feel this way!
I hope you had a lovely weekend too!

  5. Amanda! CONGRATULATIONS! So so excited to see this go live – it looks every bit as beautiful as anticipated and I’m so excited to toast to it with you next time I see you!

The images are absolutely beautiful too – totally encapsulating the new OS!

Here’s to those Friday fizz moments in celebration!

    1. Monica – thank you so so much
You’ve been so brilliant in your support and encouragement and you’re a constant inspiration to me to push on more and more!
I’m so glad you love it and yes definitely – be it coffee or champagne, we’ll definitely be toasting next time I see you!
      Lots of love,
      Amanda xxx

  6. Well, how lovely to wake to this on a sunny Saturday morning! I love the look – so fresh and considered and I love the journey. You’ve obviously given this a lot of thought and in consultation with your ‘team’ (and I include Patrick and Biscuit in this, even Holly!) you’ve created something fantastic. What I have always liked about what you do is you stay true to your own, slightly self-depracting view on the world and that was so refreshing amongst the shiny, shiny fashion bloggers of a few years ago. The game has changed now and I think the evolution is fascinating. I am with you every step of the way. Well done, breathe easy – oh and the imagery is wonderful. I think I recognise whose work that is! Lou x

    1. Lovely Lou,
Thank you so much! You’ve been a brilliant support to me over the blogging years and am so glad to know you!
Team Online Stylist has done me proud! The game is always changing and you’re right – it is fascinating to watch it evolve.
Here’s to evolving in our own ways!
      Lots of love
      Amanda xxx

  7. I am so delighted for you – and for us, your followers! Absolutely worth the wait! I’ve loved watching the journey pan out and thank you for your honesty and bravery in sharing the ups and downs. My life is very much corporate/london but I love incorporating OS influences into my work & play.

I really hope you can take some time to celebrate with Mr OS and H. You deserve to! x

  8. Congratulations Amanda on the wonderful refresh to what was already a very inspiring blog and website.

I look forward to virtually sharing snippets of your life!

  9. Congratulations on the new look! The hard work was worth it.
While I started reading your blog for its style content, today I’m just as drawn by lifestyle and, not least, Biscuit!

    1. Aw thank you Lovely!
I’m thrilled that you joined for the style but are also loving the lifestyle too. And Biscuit of course is becoming a star in her own right!
      She’ll be demanding fees next!
      Amanda xx

  10. Oh Amanda, it’s gorgeous! I know, I don’t chime in often – but I read every post. And I LOVED being able to actually “hear” the voice that is behind the blog.

    1. Oh thank you so much Lovely Gigi!
This makes me so happy to read knowing you since way back in the day when this blogging thing was so new!
So glad you liked the voice – I cringed and thought I sounded like a less posh Victoria Beckham! Hey Ho – its my voice so I guess
      I’ll be living with it!
Thanks so much for sticking with me all this time!
      Lots of love, Amanda xx
