Holiday Season Style For A Mostly Monochrome Wardrobe

holiday season style must haves

Holiday Season Style

This time of year (yes, I’m breaking out the festive season content already!), provides the perfect excuse for a spot of elevated style and making the most of any opportunity to dress up.

Whether we’re talking on full on black tie event, office Christmas party, drinks with friends or the big day itself at home with family, each and every occasion should be made the most of when it comes to matters of the wardrobe.

For me there’s something extra special about getting dressed for any event at this time of year. It’s probably one of the few times in the year when I’ll break out of the normcore zone and add a festive flourish in the form of sparkle, texture or maybe even… shock horror… a shade other than black, white or grey!

Last week the slow drip drip drip of Holiday Season style began to land in my inbox. There were swooshes of velvet, swathes of silk, the occasional smattering of sequins and not to mention my favourite… copious amounts of cashmere.

A few favourite high street brands have more than surpassed my expectations this year and there’s a handful of luxe buys that get the festive thumbs up too.

Whether you possess a mostly monochrome wardrobe, own everything in glorious technicolour or find yourself somewhere in between, the Holiday Season is the perfect time to amp up the style factor.

Here’s what I’ve got my eye on this season…

Tis the season to do textures. Try velvet in skinnies or a blazer – it’s proving to be the trend of the season. Or there’s always my faithful friend cashmere. When it comes to venturing outside, teddy bear coats and faux fur cocoons are definitely the way to go.

For cocktails or a Holiday party, opt for a tux suit as opposed to the little black dress. Just add a beautiful silk shirt and you’ll have three things in your wardrobe that just graduated to instant investment piece status.

One of my favourite festive seasonal pairings is a girly skirt – think midi/tulle/layers/sequins – with a chunky knit. Or the simple and timeless black cashmere option.

And of course, accessories can be starry, sequin adorned and in any shimmery metallic hue you can think of.

And the best part? It all goes with monochrome!
