Release Your Inner Glamorous Globetrotter

Always being one to jump on anything new from Michael Kors, I was looking forward to seeing the new, completely digital sneaker campaign featured across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook – #JETSETGO. It showcases a collection of new street-chic footwear with glam embellishments such as burnished studs, gunmetal cap toes, quilted leathers and metallic detailing.

Having had a sneak peek at the gold glitter effect, studded high tops on my shoot, I confess I could be tempted to don a gold pair with skinny jeans and an oversized knit this season. I showed a picture of them to Junior Child and she asked if they come in children’s sizes too – cue the talk about how I had to wait until my forties to experience the Kors luxe. She was not impressed.

You can see more here on Destination Kors and in the UK, the stud toe sneaker and quilted high top styles are available to buy in the Regent St, Bond St, Westfield and the new Covent Garden London Michael Kors stores.

As always, I’m off in a Kors daydream, imagining the #JETSETGO lifestyle depicted in the campaign video.

Here’s what the man himself had to say about the collection:

You’ve shown sneakers before but never in such a big way. Why now? “You know so many cool young women don’t think twice about pulling on a pair of motorcycle boots with a chiffon skirt, or wearing men’s Oxfords with a flirty date dress. They’re all about mixing up the masculine and feminine. So it seemed like a logical next step to get some really glam sneakers in that mix, ones that come from a fashion sensibility instead of a sport sensibility. Cool, glamour and comfort–the right sneakers can have it all!”

How would you describe this sneaker collection? “They’re urban-chic, super-glam, playful, surprising and very cool. We really gave them the Michael Kors treatment. The shapes are sporty and classic–either high tops or trainers–but the fabrics and embellishments are bold and luxe. There are quilted leathers, burnished metallics and monogrammed canvas, all detailed with zippers, studs, chains and patent leather edging…they’re eye candy for your feet!”

How do you see Kors customers wearing these? “With style and a lot of attitude! The monogrammed trainers will look fabulous for her casual-chic moments if she’s about a more tailored style. Our jet-setting customer is taking the ankle-wrapped wedges with her to Aspen for the holidays. The red quilted ones will be perfect with a miniskirt on a rock and roll girl–she’ll love all the chains! And our cool girl will be all about the burnished gold high tops with her skinny jeans or vintage dresses.”

Will sneakers be a big part of your accessories collections in the future or is this a one-season thing? “The beauty of sneakers is that, at the end of the day, they are such a timeless, easy shoe. And let’s face it — you can’t spend your life in heels. They can be reinterpreted in as many ways as we can imagine.”

Do you have a favorite pair? “You know I’m pretty low-key when it comes to footwear, but those gold high tops are calling my name!”

What do you think of the sneakers and would you wear them?

I have to say I’m on the fence. I like them and the more I see the pics the more I like them (clearly marketing campaign is working), but the problem is that I can’t really afford to spend this amount of money on things that will look dated in 2 years time. I just don’t know. xx
