Five Favourite Winter Gloves

Well I guess that should be ten seeing as they come in pairs…but you catch my drift. With a poncho, a cape coat hybrid and a few cropped sleeve woolly knits in my wardrobe, I’ve been looking at gloves in a somewhat longing fashion recently.

I suffer from glove love every year when summer turns to autumn – not only a practical means of keeping my hands warm… oh no. For me gloves have meaning. I see a glove and think the elegance of Audrey Hepburn, childhood snowman building and Serendipity – the movie with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. Set in NYC one snowy Christmas, it all starts…and ends happily with a glove.

I bought some beautiful Miu Miu black studded leather gloves almost three years ago from NAP but only wore them once (for my son’s funeral). They’ve been in their box ever since, but I do think the right gloves, particularly leather ones, can look exquisite! I should get mine out rather than stuffing my hands in my pockets!!

And don’t forget the wonderful Eileen Fisher glovettes! Just love mine in multi coloured fine wool – they go with everything!

I’ve just come back from Florence where they have whole shops dedicated just to gloves. There were so many colours, styles and different leathers, linings, and given the quality, reasonable prices. I wish we had more shops like this in the UK.
