The Best High Street Buys For Your Spring Wardrobe

I know that 1st March isn’t officially the beginning of spring, but for me (who’s been champing at the bit to get into new season clothes since 1st January), it’s pretty much up there with all the prominent seasonal calendar dates. The glossies and retail industry have been promoting spring lines for well over a month now so I think it’s high time that the self-tan and lighter layers start to come out…and we’ll just hope for the best. The best being no untimely, weird weather system arrivals.

Of all the trends that slunk gracefully off the spring summer 2012 catwalks, three definite favourites of mine were the fluid and relaxed vibe of pyjama dressing, ice cream colours (the brighter the better) and bold prints. Whether you choose to reference the trends or not, whilst skulking around the shops and frequenting numerous online retail sites on a daily basis, I’m finding plenty of things that should fulfil every girls wildest spring shopping fantasies.

Here’s my edit of what’s available on the high street right now – any of these would make a most welcome addition to my closet. That poor overworked closet… little does it know it but it will soon be receiving yet another seasonal overhaul.

Double Drape Pocket Jacket – £60 Warehouse, Colourful Tailored Jacket – £190 Karen Millen, Lauren Suede Jacket – now £70 A|Wear, Jaeger London Belted Summer Coat – £299 John Lewis, Bradley Denim Jacket – £95 French Connection

Choose a timeless suede or denim jacket for warmer days or make the brightness quotient come from your cover up. I wore a gorgeous coral blazer from Reiss at the weekend and loved how it added some zing to an otherwise cloudy day. Mine was snapped up in store in the sale but the colour of this Karen Millen jacket is exactly the same sunny shade.

Five Pocket Skinny Jeans – £22.99 Mango, Colour Skinny Fit Ankle Length Jeans – £29.90 Uniqlo, Moto Peach Baxter Jeans – £40 Topshop, Moto Zip Hem Neon 7/8th Jeans – £38 Topshop, Cubba Coloured Skinny Jean – £79 Ted Baker, Moto Supersoft Skinny Leigh Jeans

Last year it was the bold brights – this time around jeans come in mouthwatering dessert shades of sorbet, ice cream and macaroons. Don’t be scared of the the skinny – throw a long line T and blazer over the top for a candy coloured daytime look.

Mirrored Floral Dress – £60 Warehouse, Tropical Mirror Print Shorts – £35 Topshop, Stone Spot Pleat Dress – £42 Dorothy Perkins, Tropical Print Full Skirt – £45 Oasis, Black Spot Jumpsuit – £55 Walllis

I pointedly ignored the first prints as they began to filter into the high street as I wasn’t entirely sure how they’d translate into real life but one month in and I’m craving anything with polka dots on it and a bold print blouse. The search continues but meanwhile I’m loving all the pieces featured here and would happily do 100 squats a day if it meant I could wear those Topshop shorts come summer!

Coral Snake Trim Satchel – £32 Topshop, Jelly Bowler Bag – £15.99 New Look, Ninewest Golden Girl Hobo – £90 Kurt Geiger, Frankie Stripe Shopper – £45 French Connection, Collection Large Raw Tote – £85 John Lewis, Green Snake Twistlock Bag – £25 Topshop

Bags are the thing to have fun with come the spring. I’m all for the sensible, investment bag in shades of tan, black or rich chocolate but by the time the first rays of warmth start to permeate the clouds, I’m more than ready to swing something pretty and colourful from the crook of my arm. It’s an instant mood and wardrobe lifter.

Where are the shoes you may ask? Well, you know me… they get a post all of their own later on. I’d love to know what you’ll be on the look out for this spring…let me know how your shopping strategies pan out!

OK, so Spring wear is not around my corner but dammit, I NEED that suede jacket at AI Wear…

Aah Spring, how I love you! Some beautiful stuff here, and the sun is even shining on me whilst I read. First and foremost I am lusting after some sorbet jeans that wont break the bank. I like those Neon Topshop jeans in blue. I will have to pop along to have a look … xx

Part of me can’t wait to indulge in the new spring colours, and part of me is determined to put off shopping and see if the inspiration of my wedding is enough to get me to finally eat less / exercise more and get down to a smaller size, then reward myself with a new wardrobe.

Currently (as usual!) the first part is winning, though I’ve kept the spend low by getting my fashion update from the cheaper end of the high street. I’ve seen quite a few nice bird based prints which makes a change from the usual floral / spots / stripes, though I suspect they will date quickly so not something to buy the high end version of.

I’ve got my eye on a polka dot print dress in Wallis a bit like the one in your blog from DP, though I suspect the high neckline might look a bit matronly on me – will have to try it on. A bit doubtful about the pastel jeans, very pretty and I will admire on others, but I suspect they wouldn’t do my chunky thighs any favours! My usual dark blue are probably a bit more forgiving…

Well, your penchant for colour has inspired me and I’ve just bought some BRIGHT orange (or perhaps more of a coral….but bright anyway!) skinnies. Still jeans, but you will be proud as that single purchase has vamped up my existing wardrobe no end! And, conveniently, they perfectly match a vintage handbag I inherited last year, so I shall be all about the zing this spring :-)
