In My Wardrobe

You won’t find many hats in my wardrobe. In fact I think I only have two that fit my unfeasibly large head – one for summer and one for winter. Said winter hat as shown below is starting to look decidedly shabby and quite frankly I’m not surprised. It’s had snowballs thrown at it, been rained on, hidden more bad hair days on school runs than I care to remember and I’m quite positive it’s been worn by most of Small Child’s cuddly toys. And possibly Small Child.

It was a stretchy looking hat that I spied whilst out and about and I can’t even remember where I got if from – I just thought it might keep my over sized head warm on cold days. Sadly I think it was on it’s last woolly legs this winter and won’t be making it through another season, which gives me roughly eight months to find a replacement. No easy task when you have a head that is apparently the size of a small country.

Hat – Who knows? Coat – (old) Reiss, Cashmere Sweater – c/o Boden, Scarf – (old) H&M, Classic Peg Trouser  - (old) Isabella Oliver 365 Collection, Bag – DVF at Stanwells, Ankle Boots – (old) Topshop

As the weather warms up, I’m slowly coming to terms with the fact that the shabby hat and I will soon have to part company. Do you have a favourite accessory that feels irreplaceable?

I don’t think I do unfortunately, but the real reason for my post is that I too have an enormous head. I have a friend whose idea of fun when we go shopping is to get me to try on hats just so she can laugh at how small they all are. Obviously I am extremely intelligent (massive brain) but if you find a fitting replacement for your beloved hat please post details.

I have an Orla Kiely bag that I adore.. my husband absolutely hates it, but it’s so useful and is such a fun, bright print… might have to buy something a bit more sensible for Spring :)

Next time you are in brighton try the stalls in Kensington place in the North Laine or the stall on the seafront (weekends) under the old west Pier – that’s where I have got all my hats for my (also) large head. Most hats perch on top of it making me look like Alexi Sayle!

Loving the hat! I think hats look great with long hair, I am just cultivating mine for next years wool hatness :) )) and as for an old favourite, I have a really bashed up pair of uggs, that I wear as slippers , does that count? I keep going to throw them away but they are just so cozy ;) Happy Friday Lovely xxx

My first thought is that perhaps you should take up knitting over the Summer, or enlist the help of a kind old Aunt in the crocheting department! I could not live without my Oliver Peoples sunglasses or my leopard scarve. There would be serious tears if either went missing! xx

  7. I have the opposite problem! my head is small so hats keep falling over my eyes, to the point that I could resemble – Freddie Parrott Face – if you can remember him! I did get a gorgeous hat from Browns Focus though, a year or two ago, purple rabbit fur. Its lovely!

I’m a scarf person – big pashminas, floaty chiffon, summer linen – you name it I’ve got it. But my absolute favourite is an Armani silk chiffon one in beautiful muted browns, red and grey that I have had for about 20 years that it would break my heart to be without. I once very stupidly gave 2 Hermes scarves to a “friend” and never saw them or her again, can’t believe I would be so silly!
