Winter is the season of accessory add on’s. Before I leave the house for the school run I add on hat, scarf and gloves at the very least. Throw in a change of weather and you can include umbrella, wellies and on rare occasions, snow boots. You can forget the handbag as there’s no room for arm candy when you’re chasing an energetic six year old down the street on her three wheeled, pink scooter.
Then there’s the matter of being a woman of many coats. I don’t have that many though Mr OLS will possibly disagree with me on that. Previous purchases have been justified with the words “rain”, “snow”, “smart” and “casual” among others. You have to cover your bases.
Should you need any inspiration or indeed justification, here’s my pick of covetable winter warmers. No comedy bobble hats allowed… well maybe just one…
Fair Isle Scarf – was £39, now £23 Toast, Open Weave Scarf – £50 The White Company, Mulberry Checked Angora Blend Knitted Scarf – £295 Net-A-Porter, Pumpkin Cable Scarf – Was £16, Now £7 Topshop, Johnstons Gauzy Cashmere Scarf – £75 Selfridges
There’s nothing quite like the feel of wrapping up warm in a snuggly scarf on cold mornings and on grey days, the brighter the better. Wind any of these about your person and winter won’t feel quite so bleak.
Penelope Chilvers Short Utility Boots – were £375, now £187.50 Stanwells, Hunter Chatel Patent Trimmed Canvas Snow Boots – £75 Net-A-Porter, Chocolate Fur Lined Ankle Boot – £49 Dorothy Perkins, MUdDZ Three Row Strap Boot – were £79.99, now £39.99, Bundled Faux Fur Lined Boot – were £59.99, now £40 Rocket Dog
The words “Please put something sensible on your feet.” generally strike fear into the heart of a shoe-a-holic such as myself; however I’ve learnt the hard way that practicality has to come into it when a twice daily walk to and from school is thrown into the mix. However no sacrifice in the style stakes is necessary for any of these rain or cold weather boot choices.
MICHAEL Michael Kors Faux Fur Collar Coat – was £350, now £210 My-Wardrobe.com, Dark Khaki Faux Fur Hood Long Waxed Parka – was £98, now £40 Topshop, Moncler Quilted Coat – £830 Selfridges, Cotton Military Coat – £59.90 Uniqlo, Barbour Black Hertfordshire Quilt Jacket – £249 My-Wardrobe.com
Choose to layer up under a coat such as the Military Jacket from Uniqlo or get the extra warmth from an investment coat such as the Moncler Quilted beauty at Selfridges.
Birdcage Umbrella – £32 Lulu Guinness, Missoni Oversized Cashmere Beanie Hat – £135 Net-A-Porter, Faux Fur Trim Suede Gloves – £35 John Lewis, Berry Supersnood – £130 Louise Dungate, Rossi Knitted Beanie – was £49, now £29 Reiss

Ah, now you’re in my world! OK, don’t laugh but I’ve taken up knitting recently and am getting to be quite a dab hand at the old winter accessories. I’m an avid fan of Vogue Knitting (only the most stylish patterns for me!) and that combined with a Danish mother-in-law who is an expert knitter will ensure that I have only the most gorgeous winter woollies for years to come
Thats fantastic! No laughing from me – I’d love to do something like that… it must be really relaxing. Plus you end up with some stylish and unique pieces…whats not to love?!? xxx
Given all these gorgeous things it’s probably not so bad that it’s still Winter! Funnily enough I did almost buy the Hunter snowboots last week, but then remembered I’m not actually going skiing! Fav accessory for the cold would have to be my beloved leopord print scarf. xx
I want the Hunter snow boots too but wonder if we’ll get enough snow to justify the outlay? Goodness… when did I get so sensible?!? xx
Love winter warmers! Some fab pieces featured!
I just HAD to have the birdcage Lulu Guinness umbrella!
Inspired! X
Thankyou Fashion Temptress
You’re most welcome – I thought a little boot bling was appropriate! Twitpic the brolly when you get it – I expect a little singing in the rain! xxx
…And of course parka coat of my dreams is from Uniqlo, that doesn’t ship to Italy.
(Dear Uniqlo people, what are you waiting for?!?) I also like Hunter snow boots very very much, but honestly, I doubt I could find an excuse for that purchase living in Rome!
It really isn’t easy dressing for winter, when practicality often takes priority over style, but clearly, you have the right idea here! I love the Barbour jacket, I would ‘invest’ in that. Though it doesn’t help me with my outerwear obsession.
I have an outerwear obsession…. then again I have lots of clothing related obsessions! x
I totes have the bobble hat. It’s green and white, with a furry bobble on top and three bobbles at the end of each ear flap string thing. Essentially, when I put it on, I feel like my head is being hugged by winter.
I want everything in this post!
