New York City Style Inspiration

When I find myself lacking in style inspiration, there’s always one city that pops into my mind and is enough to send me scurrying back to the closet to search with new vigour – New York. Being in love with New York style could be an expensive and time consuming habit for me… I mean have you seen how amazing the women look? Clothing aside, there’s the groomed to perfection element to consider – New Yorkers have got it down to a T. An Alexander Wang T I should imagine. Case in point is the star of my header image, the uber glamorous Lindsey from the blog Saucy Glossie. Lindsey’s personal style features on her blog are like fashion cat nip to me – I dare you not to be inspired by her sense of style.

I don’t stick to one particular New York style tribe when it comes to inspiration – Park Avenue princess, downtown cool girl or anything in between all work for me. The common denominator is that seemingly effortless Manhattan Luxe vibe. If you look this up, expect to see a picture of Olivia Palermo – for me she blends so many style characteristics that you’ll see in women all over Manhattan. And gets it right.

So many elements of fashion that motivate and inspire me are synonymous with NYC – Michael Kors, Carrie Bradshaw, Alexander Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg and of course, La Palermo. Don’t even get me started on the legendary department stores, the divine worship of coffee, the energy buzz you get from just standing on the street and a view on every corner that makes you feel like you just stepped on to a movie set.

Whilst there isn’t much call for either Park Avenue princess or an East Village cool vibe in the New Forest village where I spend most of my time, I still try and incorporate elements of New York styling here and there.

Here’s what I would buy in a New York minute if I were let loose on a no holds barred shopping spree…

Donna Karan Cowl-neck cashmere dress – £850 Net-A-Porter, Michael Kors gold plated chronograph watch – £199 Selfridges Online, Diane Von Furstenberg Harper Bonbon ponyskin bag – £487 Matches, 3.1 Phillip Lim panelled top – £350 Selfridges Online, Michael by Michael Kors Malden courts – £195 Selfridges Online

Portland, Oregon, USA! On the way back there soon and can’t wait. Such a super cool city, so much culture, style, new ideas and full of inspiration.

Another lovely post – thanks. I have been thinking about this and think any Italian city is inspiring. There’s just something about that Italian style! I poured over my Italian Touch coffee table book by Tod’s for days! xx
