It was only a matter of time before I started waxing lyrical about the aviator jacket. Ever since I saw it on the Burberry catwalk for the A/W 2010 (live streaming – clearly I was not there in person.. sob), I have been in love with it. And now everywhere I go I’m haunted by THAT jacket in all it’s shearling glory.
Ignoring the cost and the fact that I’m not sure I am actually willing to sell a kidney just yet, having searched all the high-end online boutiques I can’t find it anywhere. I would imagine there’s a waiting list as long as the Burberry Leather Thigh High Boot for this baby. But despair not, for there are a whole lot of other gorgeous versions to tempt, not least another one from Burberry.
Mint Velvet Shearling Aviator £175,
Burberry Prorsum Cropped Shearling aviator £2,395 (No 2)
Cost and availability aside, there is the other matter of a different A/W 2010 cover-up that I have fallen in love with and if I’m honest, is winning in the Race To Get Into My Wardrobe stakes. The Cape.
Isabella Oliver 365 Cape £219 (No 1)
French Connection Hooded Wool Cape £160 from ASOS,
Stella McCartney Cape £815 at Selfridges
Bird by Juicy Couture wool poncho £320 at Net-A-Porter
For longevity I think the cape is more of an investment classic and therefore better value in the cost per wear argument. So that will be the one going on my Christmas list, although I think I may need to persuade Other Half to order early. If you want your pick of the winter coats, you should have purchased one by now!
And I have found another way to incorporate a bit of shearling into my wardrobe which I’ll share with you later…. once the courier has delivered in the next couple of days!

I have to say it would be the Burberry one for me, but not in black.. I love the vintage looking one. On the cape front I think the Isabella O one is the nicest, they are of course all lovely. I think we are going to have to wait a while to wear anything though as here the weather has heated up again, just in time for back to school xx
Love them both, but the cape is what I dream of the most. I want to pretend i’m a supergirl meets Mary Poppins when I get dressed in winter!
Miss B xx
Love all the capes especially the Stella Macartney one, FAB!!
The Reiss Andrea Aviator has caught my eye! But you are right the cape is a much better investment long term… I’m liking Isabella Oliver 365 Cape – to me seems timeless , but I’m also liking the playful look of the pom-poms on the French Connection Hooded Wool Cape , (the hood will alos came in handy on those autumn walks – where a little unexpected rain drizzle decides to tag along mid way). Hugs , HHL
for me its a cape all the way baby! fave is the french connection number. liking the pom poms!

My mind has been on coats recently too. As cosy and beautiful as aviators are, I just can’t bear to buy one as they are SO huge everyone will b wearing one. I have a beautiful cape from last year which I’m bringing out of hiding
The cape definately has to win. The French Connection one is gorgeous.
Love that Isabella Oliver cape – have my eye on it too! I neeed one. But alas – I must be cautious, so many new season shopping items, so little to splurge. Have you seen Russell and Bromley’s stuff this season? YUM. L x
