Aviators By Polaroid

I’ve mentioned a couple of times recently that I’d like to bag myself another pair of aviator sunglasses. Years ago I had a pair of by Ray Ban bought back for me from Los Angeles. I can’t remember if I lost them or sat on them but I am still lamenting the fact that they’re no longer in my possession – especially since seeing a resurgence adorning the faces of the stylish and famous.

To me, they are a timeless classic – I’m sure many will remember them as the eyewear of Maverick’s choice in Top Gun as he ever so passionately felt the need for speed. Ah… memories!

So when approached by Polaroid Sunglasses to see if I would like to review a pair, I was more than slightly overjoyed to find that amid their selection of high fashion sunnies, they carry a selection of aviators.

I confess to some time ago, buying a pair of very cheap and therefore low quality fashion aviators from a well known High Street store famous for …. well…. it’s very cheap and therefore low quality merchandise. But being aware as I am now of the damage that sun can cause and wanting to preserve what little I have left for as long as possible, I’ve never dared wear them.

After reading Polaroid’s technical blurb here and seeing the words “no more squinting” leap off the page at me (what can I say… I’m all about the line prevention these days), I quickly found myself drawn in by the promise of “taking the high price out of high fashion sunglasses”. Despite being attracted to this Firenze pair, I stuck with the aviator lust and opted for these, aptly named, Take Off. Would this make me Goose to Tom’s Maverick I wondered?

Having worn them for the last week or so and inter-changed them with my normal Chanel pair, I have to say I’ve been really impressed with them. At £49.99 for a pair of stylish shades that actually work, I think they’re pretty great. No squinting and I’m not aware of that intense glare that a contact lens wearer such as myself can suffer from sometimes.

I’m not one for technical speak so excuse me if I’m not describing this correctly but I know they work because when I look at the tinted rear windows of our car, I can actually see the graduation of the tint. This I’ve never noticed before and we’ve had that car for nearly four years!

But better than all of that…. and being the fickle fashion creature that I am… they’re so darn cool! You can tell that I love them by the degree of cheesy grin going on – oh well.. I had a brief Kelly McGillis moment there for while….

  1. I want to sell my Mykita ones if anyone’s interested? I’ve only worn them once… http://fashionsmostwanted.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-new-sunglasses.html

Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend xx

  2. Exactly the same happened here! I had a paid of Raybans bought for me and lost them! I bought myself another pair though and still have them, have owned them for years and years but they’re really good sunglasses.

    CJ xx

  3. They look great on you. I wouldn’t want a “cheap” pair of sunnies but I would be tempted by these. At least now you are in no hurry for the Ray Bans and can save up for something else. Naturally I want Christina’s but can’t afford them with the holiday looming and all my “can’t stop myself” summer sales bargains!

    These suit you so well!

    I’m more than a little envious…

No matter the style, sunglasses always look horrible on me – I guess it has something to do with being sinfully ugly with lopsided ears! ;0)

I have been very tempted by aviator sunglasses recently but have resisted as most have been very expensive. But at £49 for a decent pair might have to get them.
